Who is eligible to play? How many people make a team? What do I need to bring to tryout? Can I rush sororities or join other clubs? How often are practices? Are there coaches? How many tournaments are there? What if I am a transfer student? How much does it cost? |
Women who are enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Miami with at least 12 credit hours/semester are eligible. The A & B team each have between 8-12 players. The elected President and Vice President are guaranteed to make a team, but otherwise all players must tryout each fall. For tryouts you will need to bring your volleyball gear and a check made out to Miami University Women's Club Volleyball or cash for the tryout fee ($25). Multiple girls on the team have joined sororities and managed both as long as they keep their commitment to volleyball. Many players are also involved in other campus organizations and still balance their campus activities. There are two practices a week in Phillips Hall gym. We show up 10-15 minutes early to set up the nets and warm up. Practices are from 4-6pm Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We are a completely student-run organization, but currently have 4 volunteer student coaches who travel with the team, help run drills at practices, and coach from the sidelines at tournaments. We have 2-3 tournaments each semester, with a home tournament in both the fall and spring. The National tournament falls in the spring over the course of 3 days. Transfer students are more than welcome to try out. We hold try outs at the beginning of each school year and sometimes at the beginning of spring semester if necessary. Dues will change every semester but typically they range from $250-$300 per semester. |
